My son got these for his 8th birthday. He understood what he was asking for, and enjoys the glasses quite a bit. He also has the RC car with on-board camera, as well as the night-vision goggles, so for those parents considering which Spy Net gear to get, I would suggest that for younger children/less focused players, I would go with either of those, rather than this item (the glasses). It all depends on the maturity and genuine "spying interest" of the child -- immediate gratification for the goggles or camera car vs. more realistic "spying" with more work to get the goods on the "enemy" with the recording glasses. My son enjoys both, but they're quite different styles of play.

He spent many weekends selling popcorn to earn the card and paid $40 for the glasses, so this was a very big deal for him. The glasses are very sturdy, in fact almost too heavy for a child to wear for very long. They come with a USB/firewire cable to connect the glasses to a PC to upload the video you take. There is no way to view the video until you upload it to your PC. So, essentially all the user can do is wear the glasses around, and press the record button when he or she wants to record something. What fun is that? Wish we'd thought it through and understood the product more.
The real problem was that when we attached it to our PC it wouldn't recognize the glasses and no device driver was provided. We visited the Spy Net website and went to the video glasses area, only to discover that the website is not complete. They literally had filler text on the site (i.e., "Insert text here to tell customer blah, blah, blah"). There was nothing for him to do on the website at all, no missions, no suggestions on how to use the glasses, no way to upload the video. It didn't really matter though, because we had no way of knowing if the glasses were actually recording anything since our PC wouldn't recognize them. Lastly, and this was the kicker, the glasses wouldn't shut off, despite repeatedly pressing the power button. They went back to the store, and hopefully my son will find something much more fun.
Note added 11/28: We visited the SpyNetHQ website on 11/19, shortly after purchasing the glasses. At that point, the site clearly wasn't ready and there were no drivers available for download. Based on other reviews, the site may be functional by now. Too late for us though, we gave up on the product.

But after getting it, I was super disappointed. First of all, the glasses are huge. It's really bulky and it's just awkward wearing. Another thing that just ruins the idea of this glasses is the big lens in the middle and the usb port. My friends noticed those right away and it wasn't even fun anymore. Yet another bad thing is the USB cable, it is super short and it just doesn't feel right plugging it in my computer. The quality of the recordings and pictures are okay. I expected it and $30 isn't a bad price. But I don't really recommend this if you're using it to spy someone. It will definitely get caught. This glasses was so bad I just had to return it.
